The Wells

Here, you will find the wells.

As you can see from the imposing roof, a thickness of about 80cm, water—in time of war as well as in peacetime, water remains a resource that must be protected, as we need water to live.  In order to secure water, the Germans had dug a well, several dozen meters deep, all the way to the water table.  Water was brought up by a pump located in a side room away from the entrance.  So, in the following months, the pump system showed, upon being tested, that the water was not fit for drinking.  Except for the construction of other structures, this well was never used.

This building is in the background of several pictures, with the German soldiers stationed here during the war.

After the war, the ordinance people exploded a stock of munitions close by, thereby creating a huge crater at the southwest angle of the building, and it is cracked in a few places as well.

Renovated in 1997, we can still see inside; the pump as well as the damage done by the explosion.
