The Reservoir

In front of you is the reservoir.

This structure is 7x8 meters with a capacity to hold 100 cubic meters. It allowed a large quantity of water to be pumped from the bunker “well” located close by. The “well” not giving out enough water, made it necessary for the Germans to build a reservoir so that they could have plenty of water available. One must note that additional water was added with the help of cisterns brought in by horses.

Water from the reservoir was used for the cement in the construction of the bunkers. Once construction was complete, the Germans transformed this structure into a sort of dining hall that some nicknamed “the casino”. To complete the dining hall, the roof was made of concrete beams laid across the side of the structure, as well as an access by a trench at a southern angle, and the reservoir.

Completely covered by rocks and gravel after the war, the existence of this structure remained but a legend for a long time, until its discovery in 2002.
